As dawn breaks over the former Inca capital, we will commence our 2 Day Sacred Valley Tour and Machu Picchu Tour. Setting out from Cusco, the early morning light will guide us.
Chinchero
Our first destination is the picturesque Andean town of Chinchero. Here, we will explore a plethora of handcrafted goods. We will be marveling at the uniqueness of the Andean textiles produced in Chinchero.
The textile production in Chinchero has been a tradition for centuries. We will stroll through the market stalls, where we will engage with local artisans. There, we will select souvenirs that capture the spirit of the Sacred Valley.
Maras and Moray
On our way from Chinchero to Urubamba, we will make a stop at Maras and Moray. Maras is renowned for its ancient salt mines, which have been in operation since Inca times. We will witness the intricate network of salt pans, learn about the traditional methods of salt extraction, and have the opportunity to purchase unique salt products.
Continuing our journey, we will visit the fascinating archaeological site of Moray. Here, we will explore the impressive circular terraces that were once used by the Incas for agricultural experimentation. Urubamba

The Urubamba River meanders through a lush tapestry of fields and terraces. In Urubamba Town, we will savor a lunch crafted from locally sourced ingredients, celebrating the unique flavors of this fertile region.
Ollantaytambo
Next, we will ascend to Ollantaytambo, an archaeological site that proudly showcases the pinnacle of Inca engineering and architecture. As we climb the terraced ruins, we will reach a vantage point that offers breathtaking views. We will stand in awe, surrounded by the historical grandeur that has stood the test of time.
Aguas Calientes
Our final leg of the day’s journey takes us to the train station. Here we will board the train to Aguas Calientes, also known as Machu Picchu Town. The train ride will provide us with the opportunity to rest.
Upon arrival, we will settle into our hotel in Aguas Calientes. We will be preparing for the following day’s ascent to the iconic Machu Picchu.

On the second day of your Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu tour, you’ll wake up in Aguas Calientes town. We’ll start early to board the first bus to Machu Picchu, ensuring you witness the majestic sunrise over this sacred site.
The journey to the ruins will ascend 400 meters (1,312 feet) above Aguas Calientes. It will be bringing you to the iconic entry point of the Machu Picchu sanctuary.
Guided tour of Machu Picchu
As the morning mist clears, you’ll have the chance to marvel. You’ll see the precision of Inca architecture set against the lush Andean backdrop. We will guide you through the heart of the ancient Machu Picchu citadel.
Here you’ll wander among the main plaza, the royal quarters, and the Temple of the Three Windows. Each step will reveal a new perspective of Machu Picchu and the Sacred Valley.
Following the guided exploration, you’ll have free time to explore independently. You can choose to climb Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain for a bird’s-eye view of the site. However, tickets to these mountains must be booked in advance.
In the afternoon, we will descend back to Aguas Calientes by bus. Then, we will travel by train to Ollantaytambo. After arriving in Ollantaytambo, we will continue our journey to Cusco by bus. During the return trip we will reflect on the unforgettable memories made amidst the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu.

Machu Picchu itself is not located within the Sacred Valley of the Incas. The Sacred Valley, which includes towns and archaeological sites like Urubamba and Ollantaytambo, stretches along the Urubamba River between Cusco and Machu Picchu. Machu Picchu lies northwest of the Sacred Valley and is often visited in conjunction with it due to the proximity and shared cultural and historical significance. The site of Machu Picchu is perched on a mountain ridge above the valley of the Urubamba River, which continues downstream from the Sacred Valley.
It’s often recommended to visit the Sacred Valley first. The Valley is rich in Inca sites, offering a deeper historical context before reaching Machu Picchu. It also has a lower altitude compared to Cusco, making it a good place to acclimatize. The Valley is known for its superb hotels and spas, adventurous activities, and vibrant markets
